Bee Cool!

All it takes is a little help from the hive.

The neighbors have taken quite an interest in our pond this summer. It's been fun sitting at the waters edge watching them fly in and out and in and out and back again for endless trips and sips. And so far only one grandchild has suffered a misstep... ouch(sorry about that, Veda)! I know first hand this is some of the finest spring water on the planet, but these girls guzzle with unquenchable gusto. My best friend is certain their activity goes beyond thirst and reminds me "they are the worker bees". He may be content with theorizing, but me, I need want answers. Someone out there in cyber land must know what they're up to.

I thought so.

Thanks to Richard Underhill and his The Peace Bee Farmer blog I've leaned another cool fact about bees. They are taking our pond water and Cooling the Bee Hive.

Amazing what happens when the whole community participates.

Deer Fly Why Don't You

... leave me alone

I took a walk in the woods today, alone. That was my intention, the deer fly thought otherwise. Evidently they like summer (and me) as much as I do. And on my walk I was reminded of a boy and his guitar and song he shared with me... and still does.

Well a friend done told me that he couldn’t get around.
Had the slowest team of horses in town.
Said he didn’t know what he ever could do.
Tried a switch and a shout and he even threw his shoe.

Deer fly why don’t you... leave me alone
Deer fly why don’t you... get on home

The news blew through like the shot of a gun.
Young Bill Williker's horses wouldn’t run.
A man was called who had the fastest team
And asked his scheme to make his team scream.

Deer fly why don’t you... leave me alone
Deer fly why don’t you... get on home

He said, If you want to make your horses run like the wind
Invite a fly to a party on your horse with its kin.
Then hold on tight cause your gonna go fast
The hungry deer fly holding on fast.

Deer fly why don’t you... leave me alone
Deer fly why don’t you... get on home

* I am taking a blog break for awhile, time to put it up on the shelf. For how long? I can't really say. It frustrates me when things don't get the attention they deserve and I know, I've been blog lazy lately.

But, I'll be back.

Peonies and Mint

Have you noticed? It really is summer in Vermont.

*Note to Mr Ground Hog

If you're not playing fair... either are we. I'd like to introduce you to our grand-dog Lilly.

You might reconsider your uninvited stay.

Just saying.

Not Far From Home

With most of our spring chores checked off the to do list we jumped in the little diesel and headed to the shore.

A spontaneous change of scenery can be so right.
